Helen Fetter was an American woman who was one of the earliest manufacturers of the Chinese rugs. While she was working for a Mission school she began selling the rugs to make some extra money for famine relief in China in 1920.  In 1921 she partnered with a Chinese rug manufacturer named Li Meng Shu.  This became the Fette-Li Comapnay.  This company eventually became the largest producers of the Chinese rugs in the Peking area. These rugs are called the Peking area rugs.  These rugs have foundation threads called warp.  They lay side by side.  This gives the rug a floppy handle or if the knots are turned slightly it will make a stiffer handle. Interesting how this woman helped the rug industry way back then.
