Oriental Rugs for the Contemporary Home Decor
We all basically figure a rug has just one use and that’s to put on the floor to walk on. This is true but they go far beyond that and can even go further if you use your ingenuity and imagination.
Let’s start with what the obvious to many of is and that’s for their floor use. Your oriental rug is going to set the theme of your room almost naturally. If you had an ultra modern room with chromes and glasses the Oriental rug would probably not be your first choice, but then there is no reason why it couldn’t be. These rugs are stunning in rooms that are accented with creams and light earth tones or at the opposite end of the spectrum are black. They burst with color and one must let every individual color in the carpet come alive.
Just one example of a beautiful layout would be a medium sized room with eggshell walls and a deeper tan colored wall-to-wall carpet. In the center of this carpet, one could place a fair sized oriental rug about half the size of the carpet. Now you can visualize the look coming together. A little furniture kept against the walls not touching the oriental carpet and some accessories picking up the colors from the carpet creates an atmosphere full of serenity. Exactly what oriental rugs create is a feeling of calm yet they are full of vibrant colors. Contemporary wool rugs come in the oriental styles, too. They really do compliment the contemporary home decor nicely.
How lets move onto something even more exciting in using oriental rugs. We don’t all have the luxury of large open area rooms where we can afford to really display the true beauty of the oriental rugs. As a result, they seemed to get somewhat lost in the room no matter how beautiful they are. Try using a small oriental rug as a lead in to the room. Then using a second oriental rug exactly the same have a fireplace cover made from it. A handyman could have one put together in no time. During the warm months, we often like to camouflage the fireplace just to give the room a different look. With the Oriental rug fireplace cover the room takes on an entirely spectacular new look.
If you want to be even more daring go further than this. Find an oriental rug that would be the size of a table that would fit into the room. Then have the table made to this exact size. The top doesn’t have to be fancy because the oriental carpet is going to be the top. Then you just have a piece of heavy glass cut and beveled to this size and you have a custom table that will be the talk of anyone that graces your home decor.
As you can see, there is much you can do with the oriental rugs besides just walk on them. They can be adorned at all eye levels. Just use your creativity and you will find some many wonderful ways to enjoy these works of art.
